No one knows the length of his days on this planet. Only God knows that. What we do know is that the older we get, the closer we come to the day when we can no longer make any preparations. That day will come to you someday, and it will come sooner than you think. It is estimated that 90% of decedents wait too long to get their estates in order. Instead of leaving their loved ones with the gift of a well-planned and well-organized estate, they leave their loved ones with an estate that is in great disarray.

No task brings greater stress to your loved ones than having to settle a disorganized and fragmented estate. It can literally consume months of their time as well as a significant portion of their inheritance. It is not unusual for assets and insurance benefits to become lost and go unclaimed, robbing the beneficiaries of needed funds for their survival. Unnecessary taxes, court costs and fees will consume much of the estate that has been improperly planned or ignored, and unwanted beneficiaries will inherit your life's work.

If you were suddenly incapacitated or taken from this earth, how much time would your loved ones have to spend in trying to locate papers, records, and information needed to settle the estate? Would your spouse, other loved ones or executor be able to quickly locate all the legal documents, financial records, ownership papers, asset statements, insurance policies and personal/family information needed to manage the estate during your incapacity or to settle your estate after you are gone? Once they did find the papers and documents, would they find documents that were out-of-date and improper for the size of estate you own? Would unnecessary taxes have to be paid because you didn't have the right documents? Are your assets titled in accordance with your estate documents? Would your estate be kept in the probate courts for months or years while attorneys depleted the assets? Are your beneficiary designations up-to-date? Have you prepared written instructions for settling the estate?

How long have you been ignoring this job of getting your estate in order? Procrastination in estate planning and estate organizing will guarantee that your loved ones and charities will lose. Don't put it off any longer. No gift is more appreciated and more necessary than a well-organized and well-planned estate. Now there is a tool to help you accomplish the giving of this wonderful gift. Click here to read about the Family Estate Organizer.
